Conservative Columnist George Will Lashes Out at Channel One

May 6, 2001

In a column in today’s Washington Post, and other major newspapers, George Will talks about the advertising assault on schoolchildren. Marketing efforts like Channel One sends wrong value messages to children. He said we don’t need our children to be taught how to be more materialistic at school.

Jim Metrock said, “The only conservatives that say anything good about Channel One are conservatives like Ralph Reed who are paid to say whatever Channel One wants him to say. The wonderful thing about the massive national uprising against Channel One and other forms of commercialism in schools is that it is uniting people and organizations of every political and ideological persuasion. When it comes to protecting children from Channel One’s misuse of school time there are no conservatives and no liberals – just caring adults.”
