More violence was dumped on America’s schoolchildren by Channel One in the closing days of the school year. Tim Burton’ s remake of “The Planet of the Apes” was advertised to young people in May. The classroom commercial has very scary scenes and ends with a sinister “ape” looks to the camera (to the children) and says, “Kill them all.”
Jim Metrock, president of Obligation, said, “Channel One’s executives are heartless and reckless. It is almost like they have no sense of concern for their audience of young people. They keep pushing the envelope. The movies become more violent and more sexual. They feel they can get away with doing anything.”
“Apes” was the first unrated movie (“This film is not yet rated.”) to be advertised on Channel One. Channel One vowed that they would never advertise a movie without a rating.
