Another Junk Food On Channel One

November 20, 2004

Channel One News has a
long history of advertising junk food to students and their newest
ad campaign was unveiled several weeks ago.

Kellogg’s Pop Tarts are now a major advertiser on Channel One’s
in-school TV show. Last school year, Channel One heavily advertised
Kellogg’s new product called SnakStix.

Obligation’s Jim Metrock said, "Channel One knows they will
lose schools because of these ads. I think they are in such a financial
mess that they can’t turn away any ad revenue. Kellogg’s wants
more children to buy their calorie-loaded pastries and they find
Channel One News an effective way to get teens and preteens to
try their product. Channel One’s president, Jim ‘Sugar Daddy’ Ritts
apparently doesn’t lose any sleep over his company’s role in the
obesity crisis."

Some Pop Tart pastries have over 200 calories per pastry. The
fat content of one pastry can be 6 grams which would be 9% of a
person’s maximum recommended fat intake based on a 2,000 calorie
diet.
