Above: Actual images from today’s (12/15/04) showing of Channel One News. Students hear “Rock your senses!” over and over. This is a play on Herbal Essence’s signature “orgasmic” theme.
It may appear that the woman in today’s Herbal Essence commercial is naked, but she has a towel around her.
Here Channel One News goes AGAIN allowing sex to be used to sell products to students.
Just because your company’s ad is running on the classroom TV screen doesn’t mean the captive audience is paying attention. An advertiser has to work hard to get students to turn their eyes to the TV. Herbal Essence is just the latest to use exciting music, suggestive voice-overs, and sexy images to pump up the sexual tension in the classroom. That’s one way to get the attention of kids.
Obligation’s Jim Metrock said, “This is just a dirty trick played on students. The misfits who run Channel One News are so callous that they see nothing wrong with Herbal Essence having a little naughty fun with the students. School boards that long ago approved Channel One’s contract, never, ever considered that Channel One would use sex to sell products to 8th, 7th and 6th grader students. Well, it’s a much uglier Channel One News than a few years ago. Can you imagine the energy a teacher would have to expend to get control of her class after this type of ad shows up on the classroom TV? This ad is another reason schools have overwhelmingly rejected Channel One News. This ad is another reason that schools that are suppose to show Channel One News, don’t show it.”
