Channel One’s webcast for July 12 is a replay of the June 20 show. There has been no news for young people in 23 days. News has a long shelf life at Channel One News.
Yipes!
We checked Channel One News’s web site this morning for their latest "Summer Show" which was designed by C1N to keep kids up-to-date on daily news stories. They are still replaying the JUNE 20th show.
Young people were told this morning that the Atlantis space shuttle is coming down from space. (The shuttle landed on June 22 – today is July 12.)
Both Alexander Marquardt and Eileen Wu had promised on the their previous two shows that Channel One would be using the webcast to keep young people informed ALL summer long. Evidently, "The Summer Show" seemed like a good idea at first but Channel One found it too time consuming and too costly, even though there was no original programming on either of the two shows. Even "cheap" is too expensive for C1N.
Obligation’s Jim Metrock said, "This looks like another PR effort by Channel One’s president Judy Harris. Now Channel One can say they streamed a video news show to kids over the summer and that will be true. What the public won’t be told is only a few shows were produced. These pathetic "Summer Show" programs clearly confirm that Channel One feels no responsibility to inform young people. Channel One is interested in creating an image of concern with the least amount of dollars spent."
