The American School Bus Council is a relatively new organization created in 2006. It lobbies on behalf of several trade organizations and school bus manufacturers.
The Council’s main members are NAPT (National Association for Pupil Transportation), NASDPTS (National Association of State Directors of Pupil Transportation Services), NSTA (National School Transportation Association), Blue Bird Corporation of Fort Valley, Georgia, IC Corporation of Warrenville, Illinois, and Thomas Built Buses of High Point, North Carolina.
BusRadio has somehow convinced this organization to co-sponsor a driver giveaway contest. The contest involves drivers using cell phones while they attempt to drive children to and from school. Drivers are given an opportunity to win $200 of ASBC/BusRadio money in what they are calling the "Love Your Bus" contest.
We have attempted to contact the ASBC but there is no contact person on their web site. When we called a phone number they have posted for reporters to call we got the answer machine of Christine DiBartolo who works for a public relations firm. The message left urged her to call Obligation to discuss this contest that could easily distract school bus drivers. No reply so far.
