From Left to Right: Rep. Joseph Mitchell, Sen. Vivian Figures, Sen. Bobby Singleton and Sen. Scott Beason
On January 7, Auburn spokesperson Mike Clardy wrote Obligation and said that four legislators did not pick up their free Iron Bowl tickets at their post office.
Rep. Joseph Mitchell, Sen. Vivian Figures, Sen. Scott Beason, and Sen. Bobby Singleton did not pick up their tickets mailed to them by Auburn University.
That means eight tickets to the 2009 Iron Bowl sat in a post office box and no charity was able to use them to raise money.
Mr. Clardy also corrected what was told to us by Rep. Joseph Mitchell. Rep. Mitchell told Obligation that legislators have to send back a form requesting the tickets. Rep. Mitchell said he didn’t return the form and therefore did not get any tickets. That’s not true. Mr. Clardy says the tickets are mailed together with two letters from the universities.
“All public officials were treated the same in that the tickets were mailed with the letters. All tickets are sent certified mail with a letter from the AU and UA presidents. There was no portion of the letter that was to be returned, as the tickets were sent with the letters. The post office puts a notice in the recipient’s mailbox and the recipient must present the card to the post office to receive the envelope with the letter and tickets.”
