Friday morning, September 9, 2011 – The classroom TV set automatically comes on. Nobody has to press a button on a remote. It’s sort of creepy, but that’s what Channel One TV sets do. However, what the students see on the screen is even creepier.
At the start of this day’s Channel One News, students watch a countdown that advertises a new, edgy TV show called The Secret Circle. It will be premiering September 15. The show is created by a sister company of Channel One that also produced The Vampire Diaries (also advertised on the classroom TV show). This new series is about a coven of witches.
Point to consider: Why is this TV show being forced on school kids, as young as ten, as a part of their required school day?
Smart use of school time? You would be amazed at the number of principals, usually in low performing schools, that think this is an acceptable use of taxpayer-funded school time.
After Channel One introduces the main characters of the new TV show, the date appears and Channel One personality Jessica Kumari says “Channel One News starts right now.” Ms. Kumari and the rest of the youth marketing people at Channel One would have us believe the program didn’t include the 10 second ad for The Secret Circle, but it did.
