Channel One News prevents parents from seeing the commercials they send to American classrooms. They remove commercials from their playback for parents on Channelone.com. Obligation provides parents and the public with the full Channel One shows that students were forced to watch while they sit at their desks.
Channel One News tried to get schools to actually watch their program by dangling the prospect of winning $500 if they wrote down the name of a different school that appeared at the end of each show. Schools would then send the list of schools to Channel One and their school would be entered into a drawing to win $500. This meant schools would have to watch Channel One News daily for SEVERAL MONTHS to even be eligible to win the money. Because schools would waste considerably more than $500 A DAY if they took time out to show Channel One News, this effort was a failure and was short-lived. Channel One continued to lose schools throughout 2005.
