The classroom TV screens were lifeless, blank and mute when Daniel Boone students returned to school this week.

For the first time since the early 1990s, the school day didn’t start with at least two minutes of commercials flashing in front of students’ faces.

The 12-minute Channel One News segment was replaced with quiet time, which Boone students will use for homework, studying or just preparing for the day.

For 2012 Boone graduate and school board member Connor Kurtz, it’s about time.  “It isn’t really news,” Kurtz said of Channel One News. “The news is minimal because it’s all about the ads.”
