From Jim Metrock:
You can tell how healthy Channel One News is simply by counting the number of full-paying, regular advertisers who have bought spots on the classroom TV show.
When you see a public service announcement, that means Channel One had no regular advertiser for that spot. Some organizations may pay Channel One something for running a PSA on the program, but most pay nothing. When you see a PSA on Channel One News you know that Channel One’s crack sales department couldn’t convince ANY company to sell a product or service to their captive audience. When you see Channel One plug itself during a commercial break, as you see in today’s show, that means they couldn’t even find a PSA to put in the spot.
One commercial on this Friday’s show appears to be a regular company that might be paying the full ad rate, but that’s not the case. InsideCollege.org is a sister company of Channel One’s. They paid nothing for the spot.
How can Channel One News survive with so few advertisers?
They are surviving because one man, Strauss Zelnick of the parent company ZelnickMedia, continues to believe in Channel One’s CEO Kent Haehl. Mr. Zelnick must have a heart of gold to tolerate Channel One’s Haehl-driven decent into irrelevancy.
Maggie Rulli may be dancing, but I am sure the accountants at ZelnickMedia are downright depressed when they look at the profit and loss statement for their stinkiest company – Channel One, LLC.
