From Jim Metrock:
Ugh. The Kiddie Marketers at Channel One News can’t help themselves. Now they are sponsoring a “sweepstakes” for young people. “Sweepstakes” is a gambling term originally used in horse racing, then used in lotteries, and then used by marketing firms.
Channel One wants to get kids to buy tickets to the new PG-13 Hunger Games movie “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.”
I have continued to hope that Channel One CEO Ms. C.J. Kettler would stop her company’s marketing assault on schoolchildren. This contest has caused me once again to be very disappointed.
Take a look at the Official Rules that Ms. Kettler wants middle school students to read completely before entering.
I am sure this movie is being advertised in high schools on Channel One News. I have not seen it on the middle school program.
Hey, I have an idea for another movie. Imagine taxpayers finding out their local school was wasting their tax money showing students commercials for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. The name of the movie could be Channel One News: Taxpayer Money Catching Fire.
