Alloy/Channel One News is now on Facebook, but they are not there to keep kids up to date on current events. Oh, there is some of that, but that’s not why Alloy/Channel One exists. This is a company that is constantly thinking of how they can serve their advertisers. Alloy/Channel One’s job is to convert young people’s money into revenue for Alloy/Channel One advertisers.

Alloy/Channel One advertises musical artists on their show daily. The music is played at the beginning, middle and end of each program. One recording company is using Alloy/Channel One to promote Butterfly Boucher. Ms. Boucher’s label Nettwerk Records thought that it would help her career if millions of schoolchildren were forced to hear her music every day as they sat at their desks. Nettwerk knew they were disrupting the school day, but Boucher’s record sales mattered more to them than young people’s education.

Here is a section of Alloy/Channel One’s Facebook page. This plug by Alloy/Channel One is shameless and deceptive. Many young people will not understand this for what it is – an ad.

On a separate note, Alloy/Channel One News should NOT be putting pictures of children, with their full name and school name, on the Internet. We’ll write more about that later.
