Channel One began their 2002 broadcast year today. With all the outcry
in our country over childhood obesity and the rise in childhood Type
II diabetes, Channel One continued to advertise Hostess Cupcakes
to its captive audience of children. The commercial today was a continuation
of last year’s massive campaign by Hostess to get students who are required
to watch Channel One to eat more Hostess cupcakes and their sister product
Twinkies.
Channel One sales literature brags to potential advertisers that Channel
One News is the best vehicle to get snack food advertisements to kids.
Jim Metrock, Obligation president said, "There will be a special
level in Hell for Channel One employees who profit off the misery of
children. These fat cat executives at Channel One and the fat cat anchor/reporters
for Channel One, all make their big salaries by pushing Hostess cupcakes,
Twinkies, candy bars, and sugar-loaded soft drinks to children who cannot
avoid these commercial pitches. The Channel One employees couldn’t care
less about the health problems of their young audience. There is only
one response a school system can have to this assault on children and
that is to remove Channel One from classrooms."
