Subject: Channel One
Hello,
I just wanted to let you know – Thanks to your support and all
the information from Jim Metrock and Obligation Inc. web site,
I was able
to have Channel One thrown out of our school district (Medina Valley).
I wrote a two page letter and attached nine pages of information,
mailed it to all the board members last spring. This was for the
most part met with silence. Only one board member contacted me
to tell me this was excellent information and the kind of "help" they
were looking for. She had already set up a meeting with the superintendent.
Summer dragged-on with no contact. I assumed they would do nothing,
and were accomplishing their continued encouragement of apathy in one
more parent (me).
First week of school, my daughters come home with reports that Channel
One is "no more". "Oh, yeah, we were going to
watch it every day in social studies and talk about it. Now the
teachers have to change their plans because the week before school
started the school board met and voted it out."
A few weeks later my husband ran into one of the school board members
and congratulated him on throwing out Channel One. He told my
husband that it came up for discussion and it was unanimously voted
out, because it came to the school at "such a high price".
No, I never received any recognition for my part, no mention
was made in the local paper as to what had occurred, nor were many
parents aware it was gone (or had ever been there!). However,
my mission was accomplished and I have one less menace at the school
to worry about.
Thanks Again,
Marcella Fly
Bravo to Ms. Fly and this school board. They made their school better.
