It is time that the public gives Cingular a call, or better, a hand-written letter, telling them it is time to stop advertising on Channel One News.
Cingular is easily one of the three largest advertisers on the failing in-school TV show. (The U.S. Government and Gatorade are the two others.)
Cingular should be singled out as one of the most egregious advertisers because they not only run commercials on C1N, but they also merge their advertising into the “non-commercial part” of the show. The “Cingular Question of the Day” is a not-too-subtle ad that Channel One does not count toward the two-minute ad limit.
Cingular has been laughing all the way to the bank by converting public school classroom time to their marketing time.
Anybody who is thinking of cellphone service should eliminate Cingular from any consideration. If this company cares so little for the children of your community, why should you enrich them?
Cingular wants taxpayers to subsidize their advertising. Every ad on Channel One robs taxpayers of time taxpayers have paid for and robs students of precious school time. Taxpayers didn’t invite Cingular into their schools – Channel One did. Add Cingular to the other reasons schools should throw Channel One out of their schools this summer.
If you have had enough of the sleazy movies Channel One News promotes to our children, if you have had enough of the junk food Channel One pitches to our kids, and if you had enough of companies like Cingular Wireless robbing you of your tax money, then protest the presence of Channel One News in your schools now, before the end of the school year.
