Verizon Is Uninvited Classroom Intruder

August 20, 2005

Verizon Wireless has become one of the main advertisers
on Channel One.

Verizon didn’t ask for permission to come into classrooms.
They did not seek the approval of any school board or superintendent
or even the "OK" from principals. Verizon is taking up
school time with its advertising only because they inked a deal
with Channel One News.

Channel One and no one else made the decision that Verizon ads will
be a required part of the school day.

Obligation’s Jim Metrock said, "Verizon Wireless
should be considered an enemy of public education. They are robbing
schoolchildren of hundreds of thousands of hours of potential learning
time. Tell the Verizon CEO to stop stealing time from our students.
Verizon can market their service to kids in other ways than wasting
precious school time."
