On May 18, 2005, Channel One issued a very impressive sounding press release entitled, "Channel One Website Launches Government Information Resource." The press release can be found in our article "This Is Funny."
Today, October 16, 2006, we revisited this "centralized listing of public services at the local, state and federal levels." Nothing has been added in sixteen months. All this "Resource Guide" had last May and today is eight links to sites like the White House and the Library of Congress. You issue a major press release about that??
Obligation’s Jim Metrock said, "Give these folks at Channel One a Nobel Prize for laziness. Their press releases sound so majestic until you see what they are talking about. Typing up a sentence description for eight links took about 15 minutes at tops. Then they never get around to expanding it or updating it. This again shows the company’s apparent indifference to providing quality content to students."
Below is a picture of today’s version of the "Your Government Guide." Notice that it was "updated" today. That is another trick of Channel One’s to make the website look more current than it really is. That "updated date" changes every day, whether anything is updated or not. Since May 2005, Channel One News has been "updating" the Government Guide every day without changing one thing.
