Joe Bonamassa Sells His Soul

An ad for Bonamassa on Channelone.com

From Jim Metrock: Joe Bonamassa is a musical artist who is using Alloy’s Channel One News to advertise himself and other musical acts in America’s classrooms.  Bonamassa understands Channel One has a captive audience that often are forced under fear of punishment by teachers to watch the TV program.  What better way for Bonamassa to plug himself.  When your audience HAS to watch you and HAS to listen to your music, then you will probably sell more CDs.  Bonamassa is robbing taxpayers who paid for every second of school time by usurping that time to pitch his music.  He is robbing students of academic time by appearing on Channel One News. Anyone who cares about social justice and public education should never buy a Joe Bonamassa CD.

Channel One not only allows Bonamassa to have his own segments on the in-school TV show Channel One News, but also wrote an ad for him that looks like it is a news story.  Mixing news and advertising together to confuse kids is what Channel One does well.  If an ad doesn’t look like an ad, it is more powerful and effective.
