From Jim Metrock:
You read right. Before Obligation made them stop this practice in 1999, the kiddie marketers at Channel One News were reviewing and promoting R-rated movies on their official kids’ website. Channel One’s “disclaimer pertaining to media reviewed on the site (channelone.com)”
Many of the movies they reviewed for children were unbelievable. Here are some:
Scream 2 (rated R)
How to be a Player (rated R)
Wild Things (rated R)
Kiss the Girls (rated R)
You get the idea. Channel One News even listed – for middle school kids – Channel One’s official top 100 movies and gave a review of each one. Some movies picked by Channel One as “The Best Movies Since You Were Born”: Reservoir Dogs (R), Goodfellas (R), Trainspotting (R), Leaving Las Vegas (R), and of course, Pulp Fiction (R). The geniuses at Channel One News had no concept of age-appropriateness. But that was then, what about now?
Now there is Christa Fletcher. Who is Christa Fletcher? and why is she trying to trick your child?
Ms. Fletcher is Channel One News’ music and movie reviewer. There shouldn’t be a music reviewer or movie reviewer at Channel One. That’s not what schools signed up for and parents certainly don’t want this controversial kiddie marketing company telling their children what to listen to or what to watch.
As I said, Obligation forced the end of the reviews of explicit content CDs and R-rated movies. Ms. Fletcher can’t review those, but she is reviewing and promoting PG13 movies. Most people know that many PG13 of those movies have much in common with R-rated movies in the 90’s.
All of these movies are rated PG-13. That means they are age-inappropriate for the majority of Channel One’s audience. (Channel One’s most loyal fans are in middle school not high school. Channel One is often considered a “middle school show” and as such high school students generally shun it.
Some of Ms. Fletcher’s numerous music reviews are below. Actually she isn’t reviewing the artist or their CDs, but rather she is plugging the artist. She is pitching these relatively unknown artists to kids. She is a shill for the recording studios. Her work looks like a news article or feature story, but it is purely advertising. What a coincidence that there are no bad reviews. A big “boo” to this Channel One News con artist.
I only show the last part of the “reviews” because the article scrolls in a small window. You can read more from Ms. Fletcher at http://www.channelone.com/music/.
