Digital kiosks make grade for Cody schools

Two Cody schools will have a new “kid” in the hallways this year: door-sized digital kiosks.

By a vote of 6-1, the Park County School District No. 6 School Board gave the go-ahead for allowing 6-foot-high digitally interactive kiosks in school.

Cody Middle School will receive two stationary kiosks while Cody High School will have three digital kiosks – two will be stationary, the other mobile to go to a variety of events or activities.

The School Board made a three-year commitment for the free electronic machines, valued at $35,000 each. Owned by SkoolLive, the digital kiosks will advertise products – including those from local vendors. The district will receive a 20 percent return on advertising revenue.

“I have yet to hear anything bad about them,” said James Kapptie, director of Instructional Technology for the School District.

Since the June school board meeting, the district sought public opinion on the digital kiosks through social media. It also asked Kapptie to investigate the kiosks further and for the Board to review the contract
