It is almost like BusRadio WANTS to go out of business.
Today, November 17, 2008, I listened to the morning BusRadio program for high school students.
I heard Bone Thugs-N-Harmony.
Few things about BusRadio shock me, but this did. I know this group. I know of no other “musical” act that is MORE vulgar than this group. I know of no other act that has MORE violent lyrics or MORE pro-drug lyrics. In 1999, working on a different Obligation project, I first heard of this band and I was appalled. They have gotten worse since then – much worse.
If you don’t know this group’s music consider yourself extremely fortunate, but your luck is about to change. (Be warned: clicking on any of these song title links will take you to uncensored lyrics. Trust me, this group is as bad as it gets.) Some of their big hits include: Def D***, Body Rott (“until these mother******’ cops body rott”), Shoot ‘Em Up, Bad Weed Blues, Weedman, Weed Song, One Night Stand, Thug Luv, Me Killa (“don’t f*** with the Bone”), and, of course, F*** Tha Police.
Bone Thugs-N-Harmony are all about hate, killing, drugs, guns, and sex. Women are either bitches or whores (“hoes”).
This group has lasted longer than most. Their music and reputation are known. Matthew xxxxxx and Lucia xxxxxxx, the two BusRadio DJs, knew what they were playing for young people. Ed Moloney, the BusRadio programming director, knew this group.
The Bone Thugs song on this morning was “I Tried” off their 2007 CD “Strength & Loyalty.” It “features” Akon, so their are two acts known for their explicit lyrics on this one song.
Other songs on this CD are Wind Blow, Gun Blast, 9mm, … you get the picture.
When BusRadio played “I Tried” they exposed students to a band that sings about killing people. BusRadio can’t get away with the usual, “Our critics are fanatics. We only play clean songs.” BusRadio promoted Bone Thugs-N-Harmony to school students. Some may have never heard the band before. Some will want to hear more.
Below are the lyrics of “I Tried.” The version BusRadio played left out “s***” and the part about “hustling gambling, tricking and scamming.”
Hear for yourself. Here is an audio file of part of this song. You can tell it was played on BusRadio by the phone number they want the riders to call. We have cut out one some of Akon’s chorus just to make the file smaller. You’ll hear the very end of this song go into another one without hearing any DJ banter. The next song is for another article and it be every bit as upsetting to parents and school officials as this article.
