We don’t know what Nickelback songs are being played by Bus Radio since the company has refused to make public their playlist for high school, middle school and elementary school students. What we do know is this band is getting a tremendous amount of promotion by the Bus Radio DJs and on BusRadio.com.
Most school districts know about Bus Radio’s history of promoting vulgar rock and rap groups to children and teens (see our news archives for the numerous filthy music groups plugged by Bus Radio.)
We thought that Bus Radio was going to clean up its act but that doesn’t appear to be the case as of October 2, 2007.
If your child is coming home from school wanting to buy a Nickelback CD, you have Bus Radio to thank for that. No Nickelback CDs have a parental warning on them because their record company has chosen not to do so – it is totally voluntary with each record company. The above song called "Animal" which is about teens having sex like wild animals is on a "clean" Nickelback CD. Even if Bus Radio only played Nickelback songs that had no offensive lyrics they are still promoting this band and this other music that young people will be exposed to if they go out and buy a Nickelback CD like Bus Radio wants them to do.
If you were the publicity person for a rock band like Nickelback you love Bus Radio. To have thousands of kids as a captive audience forced to listen not only to your music but also to your promotional interview with one of the Bus Radio DJs and on top of that have Bus Radio plug their band on their web site is just too good.
Bus Radio’s interview with Nickelback.
The Bus Radio DJs are working hard to earn the trust of teens and younger children. They are the bus riders "true friends." After all the DJs, Mat and Lucia, give safety tips to the kids. They position themselves as being totally trustworthy. Then Mat and Lucia take that trust and try to make some money – for their advertisers and the acts that appear on Bus Radio to plug their music. Notice that Lucia uses the trust she has "earned" from kids to tell kids they need to go out and BUY the new Nickelback CD. Young people may not know of Nickelback but some may feel like they know and like Lucia and they might buy the CD because "I feel like Lucia is my friend and she wouldn’t mislead me."
Lucia and Mat can sleep well at nights because they see kids in a different light than most. To these two kids are a TARGET MARKET. They are a source of income. There will always be people like this in our children’s lives. The people that should be losing sleep are the lazy school board members that sold out their students to Bus Radio.
