It doesn’t seem right.
AOL Time Warner has assets worth $118 BILLION as of June 30, yet they want taxpayers to subsidize their publicity campaign for a movie called Secondhand Lions coming out this Friday.
AOL Time Warner made a deal with Channel One News. We are not privy to the details, but it is obvious that AOLTW paid Channel One News to allow the actor Haley Joel Osment to become a Channel One News anchor for one day. The purpose of this was clear: Osment was to use his position to promote New Line Cinema’s new movie. (New Line is owned by AOLTW.)
Channel One News has published news standards that state it will never allow guest hosts to plug any product, especially movies and CDs. Channel One apparently is in such awful financial shape that they have thrown their news standards in the trash.
Jim Metrock, Obligation’s president, said, “This school year is quickly turning into one of the most disturbing years yet for Channel One News. Any school that runs movie ads in class is not serious about education and certainly not fiscally responsible to taxpayers.”

Do you smell tax money burning? You should if your local school has a contract with Channel One News. School teachers and administrators across the country were shocked to see Haley Joel Osment as a “news” anchor on the September 8, 2003 airing of Channel One News. This isn’t suppose to happen. Channel One promised school boards and the public that no guest anchor would ever be allowed to plug a movie. It appears that Channel One will sell an “anchor” position to anyone who has something to sell this captive audience. All one has to do is “flash the cash” and you can talk to 8 million schoolchildren. |
