A link entitled “Ten Things to Know for Monday” on the front page of Channelone.com took readers to the above article. We shrunk it down to show the whole article as one image.
There is no author or source attribution at the beginning or the end. Anyone reading this would assume Channel One staffers wrote the article.
Obligation thought this might be another example of Channel One News “pulling a fast one” on the public, so we copied some of the text and pasted it in a Google search box. Numerous other news articles had the exact same wording. The top search result was from NPR. Their article along with the others was nearly word-for-word identical to Channel One’s. The ONLY difference: All others attributed this article to the Associated Press (AP). Channel One News “forgot” to mention the AP.
We have seen this type of “cut and paste” plagiarism before at Channel One. At first we thought it was another example of under-paid Channel One News employees being sloppy, but it now looks like intentional, wrongful appropriation of other people’s work. Channel One News should immediately stop misrepresenting content such as this as their own original work.
